Colombo- A high court in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, sentenced two former ministers to imprison long periods with hard labor, after being convicted of a corruption case related to the import of sports equipment, which caused great losses to the public treasury.
The court sentenced former Sports Minister Mahandanda Alutagamagi to 20 years in prison with hard labor, while former Minister of Commerce, Anil Fernando, received a 25 -year prison sentence with hard labor.
The case is due to the import operations that took place between September 1 and December 31, 2014, and resulted in losses of about 53.1 million Sri Lankan rupees (about 177 thousand US dollars) incurred by the government.
